Geofarmed audience troubleshooting overview
All advertisers can create and target Geofarmed audiences if their account and campaign meet certain eligibility criteria. They must also follow specific steps to successfully create an audience and assign it to a campaign.
If you encounter an error or are blocked from creating, managing, or targeting a Geofarmed audience, refer to these resources first:

Troubleshoot Geofarmed audience creation or management issues
Unable to duplicate an audience
You can duplicate Ready, Processing, or Failed Geofarmed audiences; however, bulk duplication isn’t currently supported. Ensure that you select only one Geofarmed audience at a time before attempting to duplicate those audiences.
Unable to edit an audience
You can edit Ready, Processing, or Failed Geofarmed audiences; however, bulk edits aren’t currently supported. Ensure that you select only one Geofarmed audience at a time before attempting to edit those audiences.
Note that selecting an audience will open its details, but will not enable any fields for editing. Instead, follow the steps outlined in Edit a Geofarmed audience to apply and save changes to an audience element.
Unable to delete an audience
You can delete an audience when the audience isn’t assigned to any campaigns. The audience must be unassigned from all campaigns before you can delete it–and regardless of whether those campaigns are running.
Note that bulk deletion is supported for Geofarmed audiences, but each selected audience must also be unassigned from all campaigns to enable the Delete button.
Unable to locate a deleted audience
Deleted audiences are automatically removed from the Audiences app as soon as you complete this action. For this reason, none of the Geofarmed audiences listed in the Audiences app will feature a Deleted status.
Unable to review audience reach
Audience reach details generate automatically once the audience progresses from a Processing status to a Ready status.
Refer to Geofarmed audience statuses for more information.
Unable to create a healthcare Geofarmed (HCP, Nurse, Non-NPI Nurse) audience
Certain healthcare advertisers may be eligible to create and target NPI-based and non-NPI-based Geofarmed audiences. Refer to Geofarmed audience overview to review those requirements.
Note that healthcare Geofarmed audiences are still created through the standard “Geofarmed audience” workflow. In other words, you won’t see a “Healthcare Geofarmed audience” option in the Audiences app. Instead, you’ll complete additional, healthcare-audience-specific fields and settings to complete in order to generate the Create an NPI-based Geofarmed audience or Create a non-NPI Geofarmed audience for step-by-step instructions.
Audience reach is too small
The more narrow your audience settings, the fewer users will be added to that audience. If the specific locations you chose are non-negotiable and can’t be expanded, we recommend loosening the audience’s Frequency, Frequency Type, and Date Range settings.
Consider also using forecasting and reporting tools to determine your campaigns’ ability to scale based on the audience’s reach in combination with the campaign’s other parameters and settings. Learn more about these features below.
Pre-campaign forecasting tools
Forecast in the Campaigns app: Each time you create a new campaign or edit an existing one, you can select Run Campaign Estimations to generate forecasts based on the targeting rules you add to the campaign. These include the approximate size of your targetable audience, estimated reach and impressions, and the number of impressions you can expect to win at different bid prices. Refer to Estimate reach, impression and audience size for a campaign for more information on generating campaign forecasts in the Campaigns app.
Forecast in the Planner app: Planner proposals give you powerful insights into your media plan’s potential reach and impressions as you layer each targeting parameter onto your campaigns, including your Geofarmed audiences. This process helps highlight which rules will limit your strategy’s scale the most. You can pre-optimize your audience and targeting details to help ensure each campaign spends in full. Refer to Create or manage a Planner proposal to learn how to add your targeting criteria to a new media plan.
During-campaign and post-campaign reporting tools
Generate bidding Insights in the Insights app: You can assess a campaign’s bid rate by generating a Campaign Bidding Insights report in the Insights app. The charts and figures included in the report highlight the following campaign details:
What impact each targeting rule had on bid-request drop offs for a campaign?
How many bid requests remained and passed through each subsequent stage?
What final bid rate your campaign achieved after it honored each of the targeting rules you defined?
Refer to Generate and interpret a Campaign Bidding Insights report to assess a campaign’s bid rate, and pinpoint which targeting parameters are causing the biggest drop off in your campaign’s bid requests.
Audience is in Processing status
Depending on the size of the Geofarmed audience, it may take 24 to 48 hours for its status to change from Processing to Ready. If something goes wrong during audience creation, then it’ll feature a Failed status instead.
Unable to apply an “AND” relationship to a list of locations
A single Geofarmed always applies an “OR” relationship to each location within it. This means that your campaign will target a user if they’re included in any of the selected locations, as long as all other audience criteria (e.g., Frequency, Frequency Type, Start Date, End Date) and campaign targeting criteria are met.
Note that the same is true when a campaign targets or blocks multiple Geofarmed audiences: the relationship between those two audiences is an “OR” relationship.
Refer to Key terms and concepts: Location relationship logic for more information and examples.
Troubleshoot Geofarmed audience targeting issues
New campaign - Unable to select a PG campaign type
PG campaigns aren’t eligible for Geofarmed audience targeting. When you create a new campaign that will target the Geofarmed audience, the Advanced option is selected by default, and the PG option is disabled.
Existing campaign - Unable to add to a PG campaign
Only Advanced campaigns are eligible for targeting Geofarmed audiences. For this reason, the Audiences section is intentionally excluded from PG campaigns.
Existing campaign - Unable to add to an Advanced campaign
A Geofarmed audience can be added to a campaign once it reaches a Processing or Ready status.
Campaigns typically support targeting multiple audience types. A single campaign, however, can never target both NPI-based and non-NPI-based audiences. For example, a campaign can’t target an HCP Geofarmed (NPI-based) audience if it’s already targeting a Non-NPI Nurse (non-NPI-based) Geofarmed audience. Refer to Geofarmed audience overview for more information, and confirm that the audience is targeting only accepted audiences and segments.
If the campaign isn’t targeting a conflicting audience type, confirm how many audiences it’s targeting instead. One campaign can target up to 20 audiences.
Existing campaign - Campaign is missing from list
If you’re attempting to add the Geofarmed audience to an existing campaign, and that campaign isn’t available in the Campaigns list, the campaign isn’t eligible for Geofarmed audience targeting. Refer to Geofarmed audience eligibility requirements for more details.
Add To Campaign button is disabled
The Add To Campaign button becomes disabled when the audience(s) you selected aren’t currently eligible for targeting and/or none of your campaigns are currently eligible.
Healthcare advertisers should note that one of these eligibility requirements relates to audience-targeting rules: a campaign must only target the same audience subtype. For example, if you create an NPI-based Geofarmed audience and select both Nurse and HCP subtypes, then two audiences will be created. Although both of these audiences are NPI-based, a single campaign can’t target both of them since they feature different subtypes. For this reason, we’ll disable the Add To Campaign and Assign To Campaign buttons if you select audiences featuring different subtypes. Refer to the table below for more information.
Initial audience selection | Compatible audiences |
NPI-based Geofarmed audience (Nurse) | NPI-based Geofarmed audience (Nurse) |
NPI-based Geofarmed audience (HCP) | NPI-based Geofarmed audience (HCP) |
NPI-based Matched audience (HCP) | NPI-based Matched audience (HCP) |
Non-NPI-based Geofarmed audience (Non-NPI Nurse) | Non-NPI-based Geofarmed audience (Non-NPI Nurse) |
Non-NPI-based Patient Matched audience (Patient) | Non-NPI-based Patient Matched audience (Patient) |
All advertisers should confirm that each audience they selected features a Ready or Processing status, and refer to Geofarmed audience eligibility requirements for more details.
Create Campaign button is disabled
The Create Campaign button becomes disabled when the audience(s) you selected aren’t currently eligible for targeting.
Confirm that each audience you selected features a Ready or Processing status, and refer to Geofarmed audience eligibility requirements for more details.
