Dimension Priority in the Advanced Bid Model dictates the sequence of bidding for specific targeting dimensions. This feature enables you to fine-tune your targeting strategy and ensure efficient budget allocation.
How does Dimension Priority work?
Dimension Priority operates by establishing a sequential order of bidding, known as priorities, ranging from 1 to 10. You have the flexibility to assign priorities to various dimensions, dictating the order in which campaigns are executed.
For instance, let's consider a scenario where a campaign contains multiple creative versions. While they are all relevant to your campaign, you’d like to specifically prioritize Creatives A, B and C, and only spend dollars on the remaining creative versions if the budget is unable to fill with these versions. Below is a table outlining this scenario:
Priority | Creative Versions |
1 | Creative A |
1 | Creative B |
1 | Creative C |
2 | Other |
In this case, upon campaign initiation, exclusively Creatives A, B and C will be served. Subsequently, after a period of time, a pacing check is conducted. If the campaign achieves the expected daily spend, it will continue serving these 3 creatives exclusively. However, if the expected daily spend is not met, the campaign will be expanded to include other creatives, and ads will be served accordingly.
Daily Spend Pacing
We conduct pacing performance checks throughout the duration of the campaign to ensure optimal spending. During these checks, we compare the total spend to the expected spend up to that point in the campaign. If the total spend is less than 90% of the expected spend, a priority shift occurs, and the campaign begins serving on dimensions one level lower in priority.
For example, if a campaign was initially serving all dimensions of Priority 1, and the pacing falls below 90% of the expected spend, the campaign will start serving on all Priority 1 and Priority 2 dimensions after the check.
The pacing check schedule is as follows:
Start of campaign to five days prior to campaign end: Daily
From five days prior to two days prior to campaign end: Every 6 hours (4 checks per day)
During the last 2 days of campaign: Every 2 hours (12 checks per day)
For example, for a campaign lasting 15 days, the pacing schedule is as follows:

FAQs
Once the system activates the lower-priority dimensions, does the priority ever fall back?
No, once the system shifts to lower priorities and starts serving lower-priority dimensions, it continues serving ads on those campaigns throughout the IO duration.
Is the dimension priority mandatory?
No, assigning dimension priorities is optional.
What is the Priority Range?
The priority range is from 1 to 10, with lower numbers indicating higher priority.
Can Priorities be Repeated for Multiple Dimensions?
Yes, advertisers can assign the same priority to multiple dimensions if needed. As in the example above, dimensions with the same priority will run concurrently.
Can Advertisers Edit, Change, or Delete Priorities?
Yes, advertisers have the flexibility to modify priorities at any time during the campaign duration.
What are the conditions for assigning dimension priority?
The assignment of waterfall priorities requires the campaign to have an end date. Furthermore, the campaign must meet specific criteria, including a daily budget of at least $100 and a minimum duration of 3 days, to be eligible for assigning dimension priorities.
What dimensions are supported for assigning dimension priorities?
Currently, we support only the creative dimension for assigning dimension priorities. However, support for Location (City, State, Zip), Device, and Inventory (Site, App, Deals) will be available in a future release.
Are there any limitations to when I can add priority to a certain dimension?
Yes. If you have also applied a spend ratio [link to article], and have designated that ratio as “strict,” you will not be able to prioritize the same dimension. On the flipside, if you have applied a “flexible” spend ratio, you MUST include priorities on the same dimension.
