Curated inventory groups overview

Curated inventory groups include collections of Private Marketplace (PMP) or Open Exchange inventory that is grouped based on device type and content-subject-matter categories.

The Inventory app also supports the creation of custom Open Exchange, PMP, or Contextual inventory groups. Refer to Inventory groups overview for more information.

Benefits

With curated inventory groups, you can quickly target specific inventory and increase the relevance of your campaigns without the need for extensive manual setup. This can introduce better time efficiency and relevance compared to manual inventory group setup.

Through curated PMP inventory groups, you can also cut out intermediaries by leveraging a more direct SSP-to-DSP supply path.

Requirements and considerations

Curated inventory groups are readily available to all advertisers. Note, however, that a single curated inventory group must include exclusively Open Exchange or PMP inventory, and not a combination of these two group types.

Refer to Curated inventory group sources for more information on the differences between curated Open Exchange and PMP inventory groups.

Curated inventory group types

Curated inventory groups are classified by either Device Targeting or Content Targeting characteristics.

Device Targeting involves targeting inventory based on the type of device through which the inventory is delivered. These devices can include, for example, connected TV (CTV), over the top (OTT), or online video (OLV).

Content Targeting involves targeting inventory based on the content’s subject matter. These content categories can include general or specific topics including, for example, news, politics, sports, healthcare, cannabis, and more.

Curated inventory group sources

Curated inventory group sources include Private Marketplace (PMP) deals and Open Exchange inventory.

PMP deals are used to purchase ad inventory through a private, invitation-only auction. Unlike Open Exchange inventory, PMP deals provide more control and premium inventory. These deals not only facilitate a more direct link between the buyer and the seller, but also include a set price floor and predetermined inventory quality. PMP deals can be made with publishers (e.g., The Washington Post, Yahoo.com), device manufacturers (e.g., Roku, Sling, LG, Samsung), streaming services (e.g., Hulu, Fubo, Tubi, Pluto, Vudu, Freevee), and SSPs (e.g., Magnite, Pubmatic, SpotX).

Open Exchange inventory groups include inventory that’s available to all bidders in a programmatic auction. This “raw” inventory is grouped based on shared characteristics. For example, they may be grouped based on where the ads will be published, which SSP’s inventory will be targeted, or what device types the ads will serve on. The inventory included in these groups is transacted across Open Exchanges such as Google AdX, OpenX, and Index Exchange, for example.
