In today's dynamic digital marketing landscape, harnessing the power of data is pivotal for achieving success. One indispensable tool for marketers is the pixel tag—a code snippet that facilitates the tracking of user activities on your website. The process of installing a pixel tag is straightforward, and in this article, we'll walk you through the steps to seamlessly integrate it into your website.

Install a pixel tag on your website

Step 1: Copy the Pixel Script Code

Before embarking on the installation process, you must obtain the pixel script code. In the case of IQM, you can find the pixel code when creating retargeting or conversion pixels within the platform. Once you have this code, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Locate Your Website Header

To install the pixel tag, you need access to your website's header section. The header plays a pivotal role on any webpage, containing essential information about your site. Depending on your setup, you may need to locate the header within your website's code. If you're using a Content Management System (CMS) or web platform like WordPress, there might be a dedicated header template available.

Step 3: Paste the Base Code

Now that you've located your website's header, it's time to insert the pixel script code. Paste the base code snippet just above the closing head tag (</head>) in your header section. By placing it here, you ensure that the pixel script loads early in the page's rendering process, allowing it to collect data efficiently.

Here's a simplified representation of what your header might look like with the pixel script code added:

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

<head>

<!-- Other head elements for your website go here -->

<!-- Paste the pixel script code just above the closing head tag -->

<script>

// Your pixel script code here

</script>

</head>

<body>

<!-- The remaining content of your website -->

</body>

</html>

With the pixel script code seamlessly integrated into your website's header, you're all set. The pixel tag will promptly commence collecting valuable data regarding user interactions on your site.

Integrate a pixel tag into your Google Tag Manager

In addition to installing a pixel directly onto your website, you can enhance your tracking capabilities by integrating a pixel into Google Tag Manager (GTM). Google Tag Manager is a powerful tool that simplifies the process of managing various tags, including pixels, without directly altering your website's code.

Step 1: Set Up a Google Tag Manager Account

If you haven't already, create a Google Tag Manager account. Visit the Google Tag Manager website, sign in with your Google account, and follow the prompts to set up an account for your organization.

Step 2: Create a New Tag in Google Tag Manager

Once your GTM account is set up, navigate to the container associated with your website. Click on "Tags" in the left-hand menu and then click the "New" button to create a new tag.

Step 3: Configure the Pixel Tag in Google Tag Manager

Within the new tag configuration, choose a tag type that corresponds to your pixel. For most pixels, you'll likely choose the "Custom HTML" tag type. Paste the pixel script code you obtained from IQM in the HTML field.

Step 4: Trigger the Pixel Tag

After configuring the pixel tag, set up triggers to specify when the tag should fire. Triggers define the conditions under which your pixel will be activated.

Step 5: Save and Publish

Once you've configured your pixel tag and associated triggers, save your changes and publish the new configuration in Google Tag Manager. This action ensures that the pixel tag becomes active on your website.

With Google Tag Manager, you gain greater flexibility and control over your pixel implementation. Changes and updates can be managed directly within GTM, streamlining the process and reducing the need for manual adjustments to your website's code.

This comprehensive approach to pixel deployment either through the website or through Google Tag Manager allows you to maximize the effectiveness of your tracking efforts and gather rich data insights from user interactions.
